My grandmother (on my mom's side) was a self-taught, brilliant artist. Her artwork is inspiring, detailed and full of life. I love how she captures the movement and light in each painting.
When I was growing up, my sisters and I would spend our summers in Ecuador which is where my grandmother lived. We would spend half of our time with my mom's side of the family and the other half with my dad's side. My grandparent's home was filled with her paintings. In the garage, she had a room dedicated to her artwork.
One time when I was about 12 years old, she let me help with one of her paintings of an angel looking over two children on a cliff. I was nervous and methodical with each stroke of the paintbrush. I carefully applied the pink paint on the canvas to color the little boy's dress. I was hooked.
